Sweet, old Ollie would have been so proud. :) Collin's great-grandma, Ollie, who has been remembered through my photography business would probably crack up if she saw herself made-over. {in graphics anyway}. She needed some work...and a little attention to bring her up to snuff. I think the result is more reflective of my purpose and passion for photography anyway. My inspiration came from old ink stamps, used today on metered mail. I like the idea of traveling communication. A letter being piece of a story, etched in ink, carrying heart and soul and spirit of its sender. That is always my aim with my work. To reveal the spirit of the person, at this point in their journey.
I've got a new promo to go along with my sparkly new look. It's a big one. $100 for a session, 1 8X10, and a cd with 30 images. Quite the steal. Thought business could use a little boost. Please take advantage! It's only valid thru Sept. 30!!!

When life doesn't make sense...
There are a lot of things that don't add up for me right now. We're still living at the Moneymaker's and can't seem to find a home. Ugh. Not sure how to proceed with my career choices. Do I continue to pursue photography as a job or a hobby? And, of course there are always financial concerns. The red car broke down (ah yes, sexy red) and needs a $500 fix, the Endeavor needs new tires (ouch!) and Jackpot's annual shots cost a whopping $179! Frustration abounds in this life.
But, in the midst of it all, there are moments of peace, laughter, and ease. My gosh, moments to be treasured. I'm soaking in them right now, and I should. Last night I saw a reality show woman tell of her tragedy- her entire family killed by a speeding driver, just 5 minutes from her home. She had a 5 year old, a husband, and a newborn baby. Heart wrenching. I sobbed, and hugged Collin close. We have so much to treasure in this life. The little moments are so important...Speaking of, I documented my most recent happy moment in pictures.
Halloween is just around the corner. Janet (Luke's grandma) wanted to dress Luke up in his costume and get pictures of only him with festive memorabilia. I was up for it and we set the stage. Pumpkins, ghosts, leaves...it was perfect. He was a little lion, compliments of his Grammy (Farmer). I could squeeze him to death when he's this cute. I have so much to be thankful for- I'm going to hold tight to what I have, when everything feels like it's falling apart.

Doug & Robin Shoot

Robin was easy on the camera. Her bold eyes are enticing and her Native American heritage is evident in strong cheekbones. Aside from her personal beauty, the backdrop was breath-taking. Warm evening light bounced from the turquoise and blues of the canal below, which richly complimented her brown skin. As a photographer I thrive in these moments. Robin is often very self-conscious, and frequently comments on her weight and appearance. During the shoot she told me that she usually hates having her picture taken. My challenge in this shoot was to translate the beauty that I see in her, in such a way, that she might accept it. I focused on who she is and then, her appearance. The face of a woman, sharp, intelligent, energetic. A strong representation of her identity.
A little extra info...
The PostScript Files is a blog set up to tell the story behind the Ollie Fern image. While photographing some of my subjects, events, places, and landscapes, I often feel that it's necessary to commentate on my experiences. This is my postscript record.
